Philip Island is about 3 hours away from Melbourne. We had to take a train through all of the suburbs outside the city for an hour, then we transferred to a coach/bus for two hours till we reached our final destination of Cowes, the main city on Philip Island. The transit was fairly easy and the bus ride was nice. It was interesting to see the countryside of Australia. It was very green and little rolling hills covered the land. Here are a few pictures of our transit and there is also a map. Down at the bottom right of the map you will see a big green dot, next to that you will see Cowes, our destination spot. Melbourne is not directly on the ocean as it sits inland a bit. You can see how we basically had to travel all the way around to get to Philip Island.
