Christabelle took me down to Parliament today to get my pass as well as meet up with Kate. I am so excited that Kate is here, have I mentioned that. Anyways... We got a quick tour of Parliament and I am so impressed. It is such a beautiful building. Old fashioned and kept up to look that way. Nothing infuriates me more than society imposing "new" and "upcoming" fashions and architecture on buildings that are intended otherwise.
It was lovely. The picture of the green sitting room is their lower house, comparable to our House of Representatives. The bright gold Picture is of their upper house, Like our Senate. The lovely red chair is for the Queen. No one has ever sat in it except for her (and she only has once). The Spiral bookshelf is in the library where I have been told I will be doing most of my work when I am at Parliament. Mary has an office which is quite small, but intended for her and Christabelle. I am obsessed with her office.... It is a redone horse stable. Back in the old days they would put their horses up below parliament and now it has been redone into offices, but it still resembles the stables which I LOVE!
Fascinating building. So many winding staircases and secret door ways. I am truly looking forward to spending more time there. More pictures to come!
I completely agree about the government buildings, there is just something awe inspiring about these sacred places. I am so excited that you get to spend many of your days in such a beautiful building in such a beautiful country.
